Robert Elton Tindall was born on October 11, 1913 in Kansas City. He studied Kansas City Art Institute and at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, where he earned at BA and a MA.

A pupil of Thomas Hart Benton, Edward Lanning, and Burnett Schryock, he lived in Independence, MO in 1962.
