Ralph Crosby Smith (1907 - 1962) was active/lived in New Jersey, Delaware, California.  Ralph Smith is known for Outdoor sporting scenes, illustration.

Ralph Crosby Smith 1907 - 1962, was born in Sacramento, CA to parents, Henry and Floy Smith who were from Iowa. Ralph graduated form Sacramento High School in 1925 and enrolled in University of California. He joined Delta Epsilon Art Honor Society and wrote for the student newspaper, The Daily Californian.

After graduating in 1929, he moved to Wilmington, DE to study at the Wilmington Academy of Art. There he took classes under illustrator Gayle Porter Hoskins, a former student of Howard Pyle.  In 1930 he married Viretta Hoskins.

Following the birth of two children, Charles moved to New Jersey in 1933 to continue his career illustrating for many Western Pulps, including Western Aces, Western Story, and Western Trails. His work also appeared in Ten Detective Aces.

During WW II his a work appeared in juvenile-reader books: Red Randall, Fighter Pilot, Lucky Terrel, Jet Pilot and Cherry Ames.
