Albert Bertalan was born on September 21, 1899 in Jaszbereny, Hungary. He is known for painting compositions of figures in unique environments, including women by the sea and other similar subject matter.

His first painting lessons were with the artist Jen Frim. He then studied at the Free Art School of Károly Kernstok, and then under Adolf Fényes in Szolnok.

From 1924 on he attended briefly the Paris Académie Julian. A short time later he had a first success, namely in 1925 an exhibition at the prestigious Galerie Bernheim-Jeune. That same year he had a trip to study at the artists' colony of Baia Mare, where he, among others were devoted to outdoor painting, with artist Béla Iványi-Grünwald and István Réti.

Bertalan had a year of success in 1926, confirmed by the award to him of Pál Szinyei Merse -Gesellschaft (Szinyei Merse Pál Társaság).
