Jacob Vrel

Jacob Vrel (fl. c. 1654-c.1662) was active/lived in Netherlands.  Jacob Vrel is known for Figure, interior, genre paintings.

Jacobus Vrel was an artist who was active in Delft and Haarlem from 1654 to 1662. He is considered a precursor to Delft artists Johannes Vermeer and Pieter de Hooch. Vrel's quiet interior scenes featuring an older woman with a child doing domestic chores and everyday activities are recurring themes in his body of work. He allows the viewer to fill in details of the story rather than providing a complete narrative. Vrel's mysterious mood in his genre scenes would be carried further by later genre painters and adds to his appeal for modern viewers.
