Stan Bennett was an artist from Ferndale, CA who was an early founder of the Kinetic Sculpture Race. He was trained in graphic arts and had a career that included writing and marketing.

In 1968, he started making "Magic Marble Machines" and survived on commissions and sales of his work. Some of his work went to restaurants like the Coffee Tree and a chain of ice cream shops. His work is whimsical and fun, bringing smiles to all who see it.

In 1975, he wrote a book on the Kinetic Sculpture Race titled "Crazy contraptions: A Light-Hearted Look at Ferndale's Kinetic Sculpture Race."
