Frans de Momper

Frans de Momper (1603 - 1660) was active/lived in Flemish.  Frans de Momper is known for Painting.

Frans de Momper was the nephew of Joos de Momper II (1564-1635). Until 1646, he worked in Antwerp where he was a member of the Guild of St. Luke. In that year his first wife dies upon which he moves to the Northern Netherlands. In Antwerp, his style is still indebted to that of his influential uncle. In the Netherlands, he becomes more influenced by the tempered landscape of Jan van Goyen (1596-1656). Presumably this large and colourful landscape dates from his early period in Antwerp. The theme of village fairs and the vast landscape in the background are also typical of Flemish landscape painting. Signed paintings by Frans de Momper are extremely rare. Besides the many uncertain attributions, only a few other signed paintings are known, including a comparable large landscape in the collection of the KMSKB (inv. 6046).
