Michele Capuano

Michele Capuano (c. 1890-1910) was active/lived in Italy.  Michele Capuano is known for Watercolor Neapolitan scene painting.

Capuano, Michele (act. ca. 1890-1910). Painted Neapolitan scenes primarily in watercolor, although several oils are known. One watercolor of Sardinia is known. His work generally shows more skill than many of his Neapolitan watercolorist/gouache contemporaries.

We can place Capuano because like many of his watercolorist contemporaries (e.g. Oscar Ricciardi, O La Pira) he painted signed watercolors that served as the basis for picture postcards. These postcards regularly turn up on E Bay in both “undivided back” form and “divided back” form(1), and postmarks from 1900 to 1909 are known.

Because his signature invites it, his signature is sometimes read not as “M Capuano”, but as the reverse more or less - “C Mapuano”.
