Alfons Karny

Alfons Karny (1901 - 1989) was active/lived in Poland.  Alfons Karny is known for Sculptor, portraitist.

Alfons Karny was born in 1901 in Bialystok. He was a Polish sculptor. His main genre was as a portraitist. His granite and bronze sculptures were awarded gold medals at exhibitions in Paris and Brussels. In 1920, Karny joined the army of General Józef Haller. In 1923 he settled in Warsaw. In 1924, he began studies at the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Tadeusz Breyer. In 1925, his sculptures were presented at an exhibition of works by students of art schools as part of the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris. After graduating in 1930, he received a scholarship to travel to France, Germany and Belgium. In 1939, his sculptures were exhibited in London and then in New York. After the war, he worked in the spirit of Polish socialist realism. However, his works from that period, although they took up the topics desired at the time, did not differ much from the stylistic forms.
