Vasa Velizar Mihich  (b. 1933)

Vasa Mihich was born in 1933 in Yugoslavia.  

Vasa is know as an academically trained painter.  In 1956, Vasa started teaching at the University of Belgrade and soon become aware of the growing importance of America art during the time period.  Thus in 1960, he immigrated to the United States.  Noticing the movements in art, in 1964, Vasa started to work in three-dimensional painted constructions.

Vasa had his first show in January 1996 at the Feigen-Palmer Gallery in Los Angeles.  Also that year, he was shown at the seminal exhibit "American Sculptures of the Sixties" at the Los Angeles County Art Museum.

In 1967, Vasa began to include plastic in his works.  He used the plastics as structural support for different planes of color.
