Bele Bachem

Bele Bachem (1916 - 2005) was active/lived in Germany.  Bele Bachem is known for Painting.

Bele Bachem was a painter, sculptress, stage and costume designer, as well as an author.  She belongs to the major German female artists of the 20th century.

Influenced by her father, the artist Gottfried Maria Bachem, and as a multi-talented personality with a lot of interests, Bachem struck out early on her own and worked in different genres of art, besides her activity as a writer.  She studied at the Berlin art academy in the 1930s as a student of Ludwig Bartning and Max Kraus.  In the meantime, she received her first jobs and published her first graphic works in different magazines.

The artist was banned from profession by the National Socialists.  But after World War II, she became very popular: Bachem created stage designs for several well-known theatres and film settings, designed poster, textiles and porcelain.  In the 1960s she focused on painting: Her works are characterized by figurative motives and fantasy characters.
