Inscription on the back of the frame: C Plasencia. Old restorations. Small accidents. 70,5 x 82,5 cm Small accidents to the frame. Reprise of the portrait of the infanta in the Meninas of Velázquez kept in the Prado Museum in Madrid (1656). Trained at the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid as a history painter, Casto Plasencia y Maestro (1846-1890) won the prize for a stay in Rome. He achieved great success with Origin of the Roman Republic in 598 B.C. at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1878. In addition to numerous religious commissions, he painted portraits of King Alfonso XII and then converted to painting landscapes in the open air, which earned him the title of "painter of light".
