Delmar Harmood Banner was born in Germany, but studied at Cheltenham, Oxford and the Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art between 1919 and 1927.  He lived at Little Langdale, Ambleside in the Lake District, and was married to the sculptor Josephina de Vasconcellos where they became close friends of Beatrix Potter.
