Franz Xaver Kosler

Franz Xaver Kosler (1864 - 1905) was active/lived in Austria, Egypt.  Franz Kosler is known for Figure, portrait and genre painting, orientalism.

Franz Xaver Kosler (* 16 August 1864 in Vienna, 15 December 1905 in Syracuse) was an Austrian genre and portrait painter, often working in the Balkans and Egypt.

Kosler studied in Vienna from 1881 to 1884 under the direction of Christian Griepenkerl, then at the Viennese Academy of Fine Arts and from 1884 to 1885 at the special school of historical painting at Leopold Carl Müller.

Kosler undertook 1886 study tours in the Balkans and, thanks to the help of the Archduke, he visited Egypt several times since 1892, where he organized an exhibition of his works in Cairo.

Kosler was successful both as a portraitist of prominent persons as well as as a genre painter of the Egyptian street scenes.
