Jean-Marie Calmettes (1918 - 2007) was active/lived in France.  Jean Marie Calmettes is known for Abstract, non objective painting.

Jean-Marie Calmettes, (Wissous 1918 Trebes-2007) is part of the Scale Group and the Alternative Figurative group including Paul Aïzpiri Andre Brasilier, Bernard Buffet, Raymond Guerrier, Claude Weisbuch.

He studied at the Fine Arts from 1937 to 1939. During the war he became a student of Otto Friesz at the Académie de la Grande Chaumiere. It was there that he founded in 1942 the group of the ladder with Busse, Cortot and others. They expose in different salons and galeries.

En 1947 Calmettes receives the second prize of the Young Painting, and in 1949 a Hallmark prize. It sets very quickly internationally, Philadelphia, Milan, Geneva, Los Angeles. In 1952, he joined the second group "the new School of Paris".

He received the award Dome. From 1973 to 1983 he was professor at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. In the 40 and 50, his work showed still life, black and white, arising from a reflection on cubism inspired by La Fresnaye, who do know and recognize.
