Josef Jira

Josef Jira (1929 - 2009) was active/lived in Czech Republic.  Josef Jira is known for Painting.

Jíra was undoubtedly fascinated by the mystical-poetic plane of the whole place, combining Christian and pagan symbolism, and he decided to depict the cemetery with a distinctive white cross in the first plan of the painting, which resembles the high cross on Radobyl Hill, connected by the poet Karel Hynek Mácha. Jíra himself reflected on this poet several times in his work, for example with a series of paintings in which he visually interpreted the scenes and atmosphere of Maya, while he himself also visited Mácha Mala Skála on his walking tours in northern Bohemia. This is an interesting intersection between the life of this romantic poet and the place that later inspired the modern painter Josef Jíra.   ...  [Displaying 714 of 1056 characters.]  Artist bio
