Marek Wlodarski

Marek Wlodarski (1903 - 1960) was active/lived in Poland.  Marek Wlodarski is known for Abstract and still-life painting, figure drawing, teaching.

Marek Wlodarski was born in Lviv, Poland in 1903 as Henryk Streng. Initially, he wanted to be a musician - just like Alfred Lenica, he played the violin, and music was a recurring theme in his work. 

In 1920-24, he studied at the School of Decorative Arts under Kazimierz Sichulski, who protected him and helped him go to Paris, where he studied at Fernand Léger's Académie Moderne for six months.

The characters of André Breton and André Masson exerted a strong influence on him. In Lviv, from 1930, Wlodarski co-founded the left-wing group "Artes", which in 1934 changed its name to "Neoartes". In 1933 he joined the International Organization for Aid to Revolutionaries, subordinate to the Communist International.

After the outbreak of World War II, he took part in the September Campaign as a soldier of the Polish Army. After the capitulation, he returned to Lviv and, fearing persecution, changed his name to Marek Wlodarski.
