Belgian painter Marthe Guillain was born in 1890. Marthe studied at Charleroi, then in Paris in the Cormon workshop. After the war, Guillain married Médard Maertens, and they exhibited together in Paris at the Salon des Independants. Back in Belgium in 1935, Marthe exhibited regularly at the Galerie Giroux in Brussels. Guillain then started to travel.
