Martin Chirino

Martin Chirino (Born 1925) was active/lived in Spain.  Martin Chirino is known for Spiril sculpture.

Born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1925. In 1952, he completed his studies at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid. After travelling through several European countries including Italy and Great Britain, he helped establish the El Paso group with other artists of the period such as Antonio Saura. In 1960 his "spirals" were exhibited at the MOMA in New York. He also played an important role in cultural management, participating in the founding of the Plastic Arts Management Board.

Lady Harimanguada, his sculpture located on the seafront promenade of his hometown, has become the symbol of the city. His work can be found in some of the most important museums around the world. In 2014 he became an honorary member of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts. ??
