Moritz Melzer

Moritz Melzer (1877 - 1966) was active/lived in Germany.  Moritz Melzer is known for Painting.

Originally from Bohemia, Melzer moved to Berlin in 1909. Here he worked with the Berlin Secession and was a co-founder of the revolutionary November Group alongside Pechstein, Tappert and others. His expressive pictorial language combines naïvely poetic elements reminiscent of works by Der Blaue Reiter with constructivist and cubist influences. He preferred to work with the monotype technique. Through Georg Tappert he had come into contact with the colored linocut, which he himself described as an "indirect painting process". Melzer now painted with oil paint on the bottom of the plate, which was then usually transferred to Japanese paper. The subsequent, often multiple reworking of the printed layer of paint - entire surfaces as well as individual contours - gives his monotypes the character of a painting. The female semi-nude in a summery landscape shines in bright colors, the pigments often lie impasto on the paper surface.
