Robert Schmidt was a French painter, engraver, and lithographer born in Paris. He trained at the Académie Julian and had his first exhibition at the André Weil Gallery two years later. His meeting with the painter Pierre Jérôme was decisive, and the following year he was selected for the Prix de la Critique. Schmidt is recognized internationally and has exhibited in Europe, Japan, and the United States. He is known for his talent as a colorist with a very fauvist palette and a poetic and joyful inspiration. His favorite subjects are landscapes with small village squares in the Loire Valley and their bell towers, districts of Paris animated with characters blending into the scenery, Mediterranean and Breton villages with boats anchored in the bay. Still lifes also appear in his work. He is followed by many collectors.
