The maturation of Serban Savu is related to the post-communist transition period, to the daily social reality in the post-communist Romanian space, and to the architectural and social effects of the transition. Thus, not coincidentally, Serban Savu's topics are based on the reasons for this transition to capitalism and democracy. In an interview for Arta magazine, the artist states: “Communism (or what it was) continued its existence in Romania long after it was officially declared dead. In any case, this is not what interests me, not Communism or the regime, but its results, the effects of a failed utopia.” The artist's role is that of a neutral observer of reality, translating emotions and thoughts through painting. The observation is not a critical one, but rather reflective because in a harmless image hides a complex, complicated and nuanced reality, a social puzzle.
