Vicente do Rego Monteiro

Vicente do Rego Monteiro (1899 - 1970) was active/lived in Brazil.  Vicente Rego Monteiro is known for Painting.

Vicente Do Rego's figures bear a clear personal stamp, although they are forged on multiple influences: futurism and cubism, Brazilian indigenous art and the Art Deco that was contemporary to him. The figures in this composition show the mark left on his art by these currents, as well as Léger's post-Cubist style. Brazilian artist born in Recife into a bourgeois family of artists.

 In 1911 he moved to Paris to study at the Académie Julien. In 1913 he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants. In 1914 he returned to Brazil and became interested in popular music and dances. Between 1919 and 1921 he exhibits in Recife, Sao Paulo and Rio; the works in these exhibitions are watercolours and drawings on indigenous themes. Between 1921 and 1930 he lives again in Paris, collaborating with Léonce Rosenberg's prestigious gallery L'Effort Moderne, which brings together the group of purists led by Ozenfant.
