Jacek Sempolinski

Jacek Sempolinski (1927 - 2012) was active/lived in Poland.  Jacek Sempolinski is known for Painting.

Jacek Sempolinski lived from 1927 to 2012- painter, illustrator, teacher, critic and essayist.  In the years 1943-1944 he learned painting at the underground school named after Konrad Krzyzanowski in Warsaw.  After the war, he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under the direction of m.in. Eugene Eibisch (1946-1951, diploma 1956).  From 1956 he works as a teacher at his alma mater. Initially, next to easel painting, he designed scenery and fresco.

In the years 1953-1957 he made polychromes of the reconstructed tenement houses of the New and Old Town in Warsaw. Sempolinski's painting work should be seen in the context of two phenomena of Polish post-war art: the tradition of Polish colourism and the ARSENAL 55 generation.  If the Kapist school saturated his painting with what we call 'image culture', the experience of the Arsenal gave him drama and made it moral and ethical values have taken an equal and formal position in it.    ...  [Displaying 1000 of 3767 characters.]  Artist bio
