Biography photo for Alois Kalvoda
Alois Kalvoda was born in Brno in 1875.

Kalvoda belonged to the circle of landscape painters who studied at the Prague Academy in 1887-1899 under the direction of Julius Marák (1832-1899).

Marák’s pupils searched for mutual creative inspiration and stimuli in their teacher’s workshop. Therefore, it is no coincidence that similar themes occur in the work of Antonín Slavícek (1870-1910), the most progressive of Marák’s students, and also in the paintings of Jan Honsa (1876-1937) and Antonín Hudecek (1872-1941), who repeatedly stayed in Marák’s circle and painted with his pupils, although he was not officially registered in his studio.

Alois Kalvoda passed away in 1934 in Klatov.
