CLARINDA RACELIA MURDOCK (November 2, 1834 – November 15, 1882)
A.K.A. “Miss C. R. Murdoch,” “C R. Murdock,” “Celia Murdock,” “C. Racilla Murdock”

Landscape, animal and portrait painter in oil, teacher. Born in New York, the daughter of Clarinda Tracy (1803 – 1871) and Lyman Murdock (1804 – 1888). Her father was a wealthy farmer in Venice, New York, who was prominent for his involvement in the short-lived “Lake Ontario, Auburn & New York” and “New York & Oswego Midland” railroads.

It is unclear exactly where she may have initially trained as an artist, however Murdock kept a brief diary during the years 1851-53, a copy of which is today preserved in the collection of the Cayuga County Historian's Office in Auburn, New York.
