Ernst Stocker Coghuf

Ernst Stocker Coghuf (1905 - 1976) was active/lived in Switzerland.  Ernst Coghuf is known for Painting.

Swiss artist Ernst Stocker Coghuf was born in 1905. After completing an apprenticeship as a locksmith, Ernst Stocker followed his brother Hans, who was nine years older and had already worked as an artist, to Paris in 1925. There he learned about painting and sculpture. In order not to be confused with his brother, in 1927 he took the stage name of Ernst Coghuf. After his return to Basel in 1928, he was admitted to the artist group "Red-Blue II". He was significantly influenced by the representatives of the first École de Paris, namely by Amedeo Modigliani, Maurice Utrillo and Chaïm Soutine. From the inspiration gained in Paris, Coghuf developed an expressive style characterized by dynamic lines and interlaced color surfaces, which at times devoted itself to the concrete and abstraction. The artist passed away in 1976.
