Georges Lepape

Georges Lepape (1887 - 1971) was active/lived in United States, France.  Georges Lepape is known for Fashion design illustration, magazine covers, posters, cards, costume design.

He was born in Paris, France on May 26, 1887.

A notable fashion illustrator, he conveyed motion and story in his fashion illustrations, picturing models leaving the viewing frame and turning their backs to the viewer.  His distinctive curvilinear style was influenced by Orientalism and the Ballets Russes.  Fascinated by oriental prints, he distributed color in blocks in his two-dimensional photos.

He attended Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris from 1908 to 1910.  In 1909 he married Gabrielle Lauzanne.  The same year he met Paul Poiret , a haute couture designer, and began their collaboration. 

In 1911 Lepape illustrated Poiret's limited edition album of his work titled, "Les Choses de Paul Poiret".  Between 1912 and 1925 he worked with publisher Lucien Vogel, becoming a primary contributor for the Paris fashion magazine Gazette de Bon Ton.  He also worked freelance for many magazines including Harper   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 1849 characters.]  Artist bio
