Hans Laabs

Hans Laabs (1915 - 2004) was active/lived in Poland.  Hans Laabs is known for Still life and abstract painting.

Hans Laabs was born on January 2, 1915 in Eastern Pomerania and died on January 31, 2004 in Berlin.  The German artist showed an interest in painting at an early age.  In 1937 he was accepted into the arts school in Stettin, where he studied until 1940 under the former Bauhaus student Vincent Weber.

After the Second World War, Laabs went to Berlin and co-founded the surrealist artist revue ‘Die Badewanne’ [The Bathtub].  He was also a member of the Neue Gruppe Berlin.  Laabs mainly painted still lifes and abstract compositions of colours and shapes.  The artist once stated that he was fascinated by the “magic of simplicity”.
