A painter, sculptor, and teacher, Helen Woodward had a career in Indianapolis, Indiana where she was a member of the Indiana Art Club and the Contemporary Club.

She was born in Newton Stewart, Indiana and studied at the John Herron Art Institute, Butler University, and Indiana University. She was a pupil of William Forsyth, Charles Hawthorne, Wayman Adams, and Eliot O'Hara.

She has had one-woman exhibitions at Ball State College in Muncie; the Hoosier Salon, and Indiana University.
