James Grant

James Jeffrey Grant (1883 - 1960) was active/lived in Illinois / Scotland.  James Grant is known for Town-cityscape, fishing scenes, harbors.

A painter active in Chicago in the early half of the 20th Century, J Jeffrey Grant was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and studied art there and in Munich, Germany. He settled in Chicago in the 1920s but became best known for New England fishing villages and small towns in Illinois. He also did cityscape scenes of Chicago including the skyscrapers on Upper Michigan Avenue.

In 1935, he had a one-man exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago. Other exhibition venues were the National Academy of Design, Corcoran Gallery, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Currier Gallery.

He was a member of the Palette & Chisel Academy in Chicago, the Chicago Painters and Sculptors and the North Shore Art Association of Gloucester, Massachusetts.
