Jean Michel Atlan

Jean Michel Atlan (1913 - 1960) was active/lived in France.  Jean Atlan is known for Abstract painting.

Jean-Michel Atlan was born in 1913, in Algeria. He studied philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris. After the German occupation of France, Jean-Michel lost his work in teaching and lived in poverty in Montparnasse. During this time though he devoted himself to painting and other artistic pursuits.

Following the liberation of France, Jean-Michel first published a poem collection. His breakthrough with regard to painting occurred through an exhibition at the Galerie Bing in 1956. Today, Jean-Michel's work can be found at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, amongst others.

Jean-Michel Atlan died in 1960, in France.
