Jim Harrison

Jim Harrison (1936 - 2016) was active/lived in South Carolina.  Jim Harrison is known for Farm landscape, country store, small town architecture painting, writing.

Jim Harrison's paintings of farm landscapes, country stores, and small town architecture invite the viewer to experience early 20th century rural life in America.  His subjects -- railroad stations, churches, one room school houses, country stores, covered bridges, and farm buildings -- represent the spirit of an agrarian society.

His painting career began with a Coca Cola sign on the side of the hardware store in Denmark, South Carolina. After a more than 40 years as a painter and writer, he has limited edition prints, paintings, trademarks and seven books to his name.

Harrison credits his mother with providing the encouragement for him to develop his artistic interests beyond that of sign painting. Her investment in his first art kit led to a lifetime of work. During his years at Denmark High School, he was the "class artist" and after graduation, he began his college career at the University of South Carolina. Jim Harrison's paintings of farm landscapes, country stores, and small town architecture invite the viewer to experience early 20th century rural life in America.  His subjects -- railroad stations, churches, one room school houses, country stores, covered bridges, and farm buildings -- represent the spirit of an agrarian society.

His painting career began with a Coca Cola sign on the side of the hardware store in Denmark, South Carolina. After a more than 40 years as a painter and writer, he has limited edition prints, paintings, trademarks and seven books to his name.

During his years at Denmark High School, he was the "class artist" and after graduation, he began his college career at the University of South Carolina. Torn between his love of art and the enjoyment of athletics, he pursued a dual major in art and physical education.

Eleven years as a high school coach followed but he never lsot his enthusiasm for painting and led him to turn down an offer to be an assistant coach at Furman University and return to his hometown to pursue his career as an artist.

Harrison has had successful one-man shows at the New York Hammer Galleries and the San Francisco Conacher Galleries.  His works have also been included in annual shows at the prestigious National Academy Gallery in New York.
