John Clinton Ogilvie

John Clinton Ogilvie (1838 - 1900) was active/lived in New York.  John Ogilvie is known for Pastoral landscape and seascape painting.

A painter in Hudson River Style, who also painted landscapes in Switzerland and France, John Clinton Ogilvie was born in New York City and established his painting career primarily there, exhibiting at the National Academy of Design from 1861 to 1900. 

From 1863 to 1886, he was active in the Brooklyn Art Association, and between 1864 and 1888, he exhibited paintings at the Pennsylvania Academy.

Ogilvie was a student of James M. Hart, and in 1866, went to Paris to study for a year, returning in 1872-73.  In 1879, he spent four years touring Europe, spending considerable time at Nice, France and doing plein-air painting in Mentone.
