Josef Stoitzner

Josef Stoitzner (1884 - 1951) was active/lived in Austria.  Josef Stoitzner is known for Painting.

Austrian painter and graphic artist, Josef Stoitzner studied at the Academy of Arts in Vienna from 1906 to 1909.  At that time he also became a member of the Vienna Secession, where he would regularly have the opportunity to exhibit his works.  After studying, Stoitzner was active as a teacher and later, in 1932, he was offered a lecturing position by his former academy institution.

Parallel to his job, Stoitzner built up a large collector’s base, which he initially provided with Art Nouveau woodcuts.  Stoitzner’s mature oeuvre included still lifes, landscapes and interiors that were not inspired by avant-garde movements, but unveiled his fascination for the Salzburg region.

For around 20 years, Joseph Stoitzner’s works have been re-discovered by art lovers and the market.  In 2010 the Salzburg Museum organized a great retrospective in favor of the artist. (cbo)
