José Mange was a French landscape painter and poet born in Toulon. He met Paul Cézanne while still in school and moved to Paris in 1886 to study art. He exhibited for the first time in 1893 and participated in numerous exhibitions throughout his career. He was a member of the Société des Félibres de Paris and was a great admirer of Frédéric Mistral. Mange surrounded himself with a small group of painter friends and became close friends with Georges Bernanos in 1931.
