Lawrence Frederic Hosmer

Lawrence Frederic Hosmer (1895 - 1984) was active/lived in California, Minnesota.  Lawrence Hosmer is known for Landscape.

Landscape painter. Born in Lamberton, MN on April 5, 1895. Hosmer moved to California with his family in 1903. In 1917 he enrolled at the CSFA where he learned to paint from teachers Van Sloun, Randolph, and Martinez. In 1930 he settled in Lodi, CA and lived there for his remaining years. Combining a career as both artist and vinyardist, from 1950 until 1977 he was the fine arts director of the Lodi Grape Festival and National Wine Show. After restoring a 112-year-old building in Volcano (CA), he operated the Cobblestone Gallery there for many years. Hosmer died in Lodi on July 25, 1984. His paintings were inspired by the Mother Lode area, Monument Valley, Owens Valley, and the Sierra Nevada. His early landscapes are more somber; during his later years he used a brighter palette.
