Leonard Winterowski

Leonard Winterowski (1886 - 1927) was active/lived in Poland.  Leonard Winterowski is known for Paintings of battle scenes, soldiers on horses, portraits.

In the years 1895-1897 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow; initially under the supervision of Leopold Loeffler, later with Teodor Axentowicz. In 1896 he was awarded a silver medal for school work. Then he was educated at the Academy in Vienna, where he went as a scholarship holder of the National Department.

He began exhibiting early - he made his debut in 1897 at an exhibition at the Krakow Society of Friends of Fine Arts. He also exhibited in Lviv and in Lódz, Vienna and Berlin. During World War I, he served in the Austrian army as a painter and war correspondent. After the war, he moved to Warsaw. Earlier in his work, he painted portraits, landscapes, genre scenes, and religious pictures ( St. Stanislaw Kostka from 1912 for the Lviv church of St. Elizabeth).
