Max Werner was married to : Gertrud (Groper) Werner for a time. He was a portrait painter in his early years and then switched to landscapes in his later years when his eyesight was not as keen. 

Gertrud and her daughter (from a previous marriage) sold off some of his paintings to survive during the war years in Neumunster, Germany.

I believe some of his works were displayed in the town hall in Neumunster.

My late mother-in-law Olga (Groper) Bauer was Gertrud's sister. Olga died in Neumunster in January 1983 and Gertrud sometime after that.
