Max Wislicenus

Max Wislicenus (1861 - 1957) was active/lived in Germany.  Max Wislicenus is known for Modernist landscape and figure painting, graphics, tapestry design, stained glass.

Max Wislicenus (born July 17, 1861 in Weimar, † May 25, 1957 in Dresden-Pillnitz) was an artist and professor at the Royal Academy of Arts and Crafts in Breslau (Silesia) who worked in painting and image weaving. The admiralty council and naval writer Georg Wislicenus (1858-1927) and the painter Hans Wislicenus (1864-1939) were his brothers.

Max studied at the art academy in Düsseldorf from 1880 to 1889 under Eduard Gebhardt and Wilhelm Sohn and until 1891 in Munich, He married Else Freudenberg in 1894, who gave birth to daughter Gonhild at the end of the year. In 1896 the Prussian Ministry of Culture appointed him as a teacher in the drawing and painting class of the Royal Art and Trade School in Breslau, which was given the rank of academy in 1911. Wislicenus worked there until 1919, was appointed professor in 1900 and took over the class for textile art.
