Oswald Römer (born May 11, 1938 in Berghausen; † June 27, 1998 in Schwarzenau) was a German draftsman, animal and landscape painter. He was born on May 11, 1938, the eldest son of August and Emmi Römer, née Busch, in Berghausen, Wittgenstein district. As a child and youth he made drawings and first oil paintings of local game.

He soon received professional support: The animal painter Renz Waller from Mettmann, who was evacuated during the Second World War because of the Allied air raids, lived in his birthplace. Römer was inspired by the motifs of the hunt and for hunting depictions in Waller's painting and drawing technique.

After elementary school in his hometown and a three-year apprenticeship as a painter and house painter from 1954 in Berleburg, he moved to Cologne in 1957, where he worked as a designer for wallpapers and fabrics. As early as 1959 he ran a wallpaper design studio in Cologne and designed numerous landscape and natural wallpapers.
