Biography from Capitolium Art

Ottorino Garosio (1904 -1980)Early orphaned by his father, a decorator who passed away at the age of forty in 1913, Garosio learned the rudiments of art as a service in Riva, from Antonio Simeoni. Returning to Vestone, from 1925 painting from a profession was transformed for him into expression. Valsabbia was the great reason for its colors. He exhibited for the first time in Brescia in 1934. The "Cantinone di Tita" in Vestone was the beach frequented by Garosio and other artists. The post-war period did not see him change either in his ways or in his painting. His figurative art, which had skipped every academy, arose robust, instinctive, through a quick, skilled hand, practiced in exercise and above all available to the freedom of making art, never so broad as in the twentieth century. In short, he saved himself from school by constantly aiming for the joy of the colored canvas and the paper on which to paint. The legend of Ottorino is nourished in everyday life: the old men in cloaks and hats over their eyes, the fireplace lit, the farmers digging, the women at the wash house, the still lifes, the snow, the bright and inebriated autumn, the landscapes, the proud and reflected self-portraits.
