Petr Alexandrovich Nilus

Petr Alexandrovich Nilus (1869 - 1940/43) was active/lived in Russian Federation.  Petr Nilus is known for Impressionist genre, portrait, figure and landscape painting.

Petr Alexandrovich Nilus began his education at the beginning of the 1880s at the arts college in Odessa and at the end of the decade he changed to the academy in St. Petersburg. After that he traveled through Western Europe visiting among others Germany, Italy and France.

In Paris, he learnt about the way of painting of the impressionists which had a great impact on his oeuvre. After emigrating from Russia in 1923 Nilus settled down in the French art capital.

The artist worked as well as an art critic and author. His paintings present portraits and figure depictions as well as landscapes and coastal sceneries.
