Philip Hermogenes Calderon

Philip Hermogenes Calderon (1833 - 1898) was active/lived in England, United Kingdom.  Philip Calderon is known for Figure and genre painting.

Philip Calderon was born in Poitiers in 1833. He began studying engineering, but became more interested in the drawing side of the profession consequently deciding to become a painter. His first painting appeared at the Academy in 1853, but he had little success until his painting, Broken Vows (1857), painted in the spirit of the Pre-Raphaelites was well received with the critics and public alike.

He was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy until 1897. In 1864, Calderon became an Associate Royal Academician and in 1867 he became a full Royal Academician. Most of his paintings include historical scenes and female figure subjects.
