“Landscape artist Robert Clark remains mildly enthusiastic about Cambria’s future. A big, soft-spoken man whose realistic, egg-tempera paintings have sold well in recent years, he has settled down in a large comfortable house with attached studio, overlooking a rugged coastline where one often sights the shy sea otter floating in the surf.

Clark’s work habits are like his paintings – thoroughly organized and precise. He roams the countryside searching out ramshackle, weathered barns (of which there is a multitude). After sketches and photos, he closets himself in his studio with his paints. There, under the controlled conditions necessary to the medium, he achieves startlingly graphic effects. Once Clark is satisfied that a painting is right, he carefully packs it and mails it to his Carmel dealer, Zantman Galleries.
