Rudolf Jordan

Rudolf Jordan (1810 - 1887) was active/lived in Germany.  Rudolf Jordan is known for Genre painting and sculpture.

Born in Berlin, the painter Wilhelm Rudolf Jordan (1810-1887) first trained at the school of painting under Karl Wilhelm Wach in Berlin and then attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy.  He there worked in the studio of Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow and Karl Ferdinand Sohn.  From 1848, he worked as a genre painter and opened his own studio in Düsseldorf.

In 1837, Jordan was a member of the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin.  He was appointed Royal Professor and won the large gold medal of the Berlin exhibition.  Several works of Jordan were published during his lifetime in the form of engravings and lithographs.  Today his works are on display in important public collections, including the Berlin National Gallery and the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne.
