William Cruickshank (1836 - 1917)

A painter of game, still life, fruit, birds, bird's nests, memento mori and miniatures, William Cruickshank was active in London, England in the last half of the 19th century, primarily between the years 1866 and 1887.  His mediums were watercolor, gouache* and oil.  His miniatures were executed on an ivory support and his paintings were frequently mounted in oval frames.  His style was Realism*, the AskART images are good illustrations of his work. He exhibited with the Royal Academy* every year from 1877 to 1886; he also exhibited with the Suffolk Street Gallery of the Society of British Artists*.  His works are in the collections of The Courtauld Gallery (London, England) and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (Exeter, Devon, England).
