Bernhard Kretzschmar

Bernhard Kretzschmar (1889 - 1972) was active/lived in Germany.  Bernhard Kretzschmar is known for Dresden Secession, defamed as "degenerate" artist.

Bernhard Kretzschmar (1889-1972) studied from 1909 until 1911 at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Dresden.  After study trips to South Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Italy he got finally accepted at the Academy in Dresden as a master pupil of Carl Bantzer.  Here, he also got to know Peter August Böckstiegel and Conrad Felixmüller, with whom he founded the Gruppe 1917.

At the beginning of his career, he was a representative of the Neue Sachlichkeit.  After the First World War, he decided to destroy his entire hitherto created body of work.  From then on, he increasingly oriented himself towards Expressionist prints.  In 1932, he was a founding member of the Neue Dresdner Sezession.
