Miss Bessie Hendricks, 62 years old, 226 East Twelfth street, Apartment 44, prominent in Indiana art circles for many years, died Sunday at the Fletcher sanitarium after an illness of several years. She went to the sanitarium only recently for treatment.

Miss Hendricks was born in Indianapolis, the daughter of Abram and Sarah Butler Hendricks. Her father was a widely known member of the Indiana Bar Association and was senior partner of the old legal firm of Hendricks, Baker, Hord & Hendricks. Miss Hendricks attended Miss May Wright Sewall’s Classical school and was an early student of the art institute of T.C. Steele. She also had studied at the John Herron art institute.
For several years Miss Hendricks maintained a studio in the Union Trust building, and in fact maintained it until her death, although she had not been able to do active work there for some time.

She was a member of the Indiana Artists’ Club, the Western Arts Association of Artists and had been an exhibitor at a number of exhibits in Indiana and in national exhibits. She published several poems and had written newspaper articles on art. She was also a member of the Women’s Press Club of Indiana and the second Presbyterian Church.
