Clarice Smith

Clarice Smith (1933 - 2021) was active/lived in Virginia, District Of Columbia.  Clarice Smith is known for Still life, portrait, genre, florals.

Clarice Smith was born in Washington, DC in January 1933. She received both her BA (1976) and her MA (1979) from The George Washington University, Washington, DC where her major was painting.

She has exhibited extensively in the United States and Europe, most notably at Wildenstein's in New York; the Robert Noortman Galleries in London, England and in Maastricht, The Netherlands; the Galerie Herve Odermatt in Paris, France; and the David Koetser Gallery in Zurich, Switzerland. In the mid 1980's the travelling exhibition of her work entitled "Clarice Smith:Remembered Moments" was seen in Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, Cedar Rapids Iowa; Springfield Art Museum, Springfield, Missouri; Tampa Museum, Tampa, Florida; and others. In June 2002, she is having her 22nd solo exhibition at the Richard Green Galleries in London, England.

Clarice Smith was born in Washington, DC in January 1933. She received both her BA (1976) and her MA (1979) from The George Washington University, Washington, DC where her major was painting.

Her paintings, always in oil on linen canvas, could be described as both optically real and occasionally impressionistic in subject embracing still life, portraiture, genre and flowers.

Of Her own work Clarice has said, "I paint the world I live in, the things I know. I'm not making political statements. I aspire to the paintings of Degas, Sargent and Ingres..."

Ms. Smith passed away in 2021.
