Henry Vickers

Henry Harold Vickers (1851 - 1918) was active/lived in Ontario / Canada, England.  Henry Vickers is known for Landscape. rural scene and portrait painting, teaching.

Henry Harold Vickers (1851 - 1918) was a painter, draftsman and educator. He was born in Dudley, Worcestershire, England and died in Ottawa, Ontario, where he had lived since emigrating to Canada in about 1881.

His primary medium was oil paint. His primary subjects were landscapes, rural scenes, sheep, cattle, rivers and portraits.  His style was Realism*.  AskART has excellent illustrations of his work.

His art education includes studies in painting at the Birmingham and Midland Institute (England), anatomy at Queen's College (now the University of Birmingham Medical School), and landscape painting under Frederick Henry Henshaw (see AskART), also in Birmingham.

In Ottawa, Vickers taught advanced drawing and painting. (1)

There is not much of an exhibition record for Vickers; however A Dictionary of Canadian Artists notes that he exhibited at the Toronto Industrial Exhibition in 1897 and 1901. (2)
